Game Summaries

State Quarterfinal vs Ray-Pec

It was a beautiful late October day as the Jays traveled to take on the Panthers of Ray-Pec with a trip to the Final Four on the line. This game was an all-time classic. Both pitchers brought their A Games all day long. 7 innings wasn't enough to decide this one. The Panthers were able to scratch across 1 run in the top of the 9th on a bouncing ground ball that just found a hole. The Jays couldn't answer in the bottom half and lost the game 1-0. Both teams played well and we are very proud of how our team played. We finished the year going 22-14. We were Conference Champions and we were District Champions. It was an outstanding year!

Liberty North-District Championship Game

This year's Class 5 District 8 Championship game was a rematch of the 2022 District Championship game. The Campus of William Jewell hosted the Eagles and the Jays with a trip to the State Playoffs on the line. The Jays struck first in the 1st inning with RBI singles from Cabuyaban and Blodgett and a bases loaded RBI walk by Ashley Anderson. The Jays would add another in the 2nd with a double from Garrison and some great baserunning to lead 4-0 after 2 innings. The Eagles would chip away with 1 run in the 3rd and then they would take the lead with a 4 run 5th inning.

The Jays would immediately respond with a leadoff single from Blodgett, a walk from Anderson and a sacrifice bunt from Frey who reached on an error. The Jays would take advantage of another Eagle mistake to tie the game at 5 and then would take the lead on a wild pitch. The inning was capped off with a big 3 run home run from Sierra Persinger. The Jays led 9-5 after the 5th inning. That would prove to be enough for the Jays as Cabuyaban was able to shut the door and the Jays won their second consecutive District Championship! Cabuyaban earned the win in the circle striking out 10 in 7 innings. The Jays are now 22-13 and will play in the State Quarterfinals this Saturday at Ray-Pec.
